A gene for prostate cancer

The NYT yesterday covered a study that found a gene conferring increased risk for prostate cancer. The study, as far as I can tell, is at doi:10.1038/ng1808. I mention this a lot, but how come the general press sucks so much at citing sources explicitly? It's always something imprecise like "to be described Monday in the journal Nature Genetics." How hard is it to get a volume and page number or a DOI, for crying out loud?
